새벽에 성경을 읽는데 시편 146:5절이 눈에 들어왔습니다. “야곱의 하나님을 자기의 도움으로 삼으며 여호와 자기 하나님에게 자기의 소망을 두는 자는 복이 있도다”

이 세상엔 도움이 필요하지 않은 사람은 한 사람도 없습니다. 그 증거로 우리의 삶을 보면 우리는 사실 수많은 사람으로부터 도움을 받고 살고 있다는 것을 깨닫게 됩니다. 옷을 입을 때는 옷을 만드는 사람의 도움을 받는 것이고, 식품을 사서 먹을 때도 그것을 만든 사람의 도움을 받는 것입니다. 그리고 우리가 아플 때는 의사의 도움을 받고 법적인 것이 문제가 되면 변호사의 도움을 받습니다. 우리는 이렇게 수많은 사람의 도움을 받고 살아가고 있습니다. 그러나 우리는 세상을 살아가는 동안 그 무엇 보다 하나님의 도움이 필요한 사람들입니다. 우리의 생사 화복과 흥망성쇠가 하나님의 손에 있기 때문입니다. 다윗은 역대 상 29장 11, 12절에서 다음과 같은 고백을 하였습니다. “여호와여 위대하심과 권능과 영광과 승리와 위엄이 다 주께 속하였사오니 천지에 있는 것이 다 주의 것이로소이다 여호와여 주권도 주께 속하였사오니 주는 높으사 만물의 머리이심이니이다 부와 귀가 주께로 말미암고 또 주는 만물의 주재가 되사 손에 권세와 능력이 있사오니 모든 사람을 크게 하심과 강하게 하심이 주의 손에 있나이다”

이런 하나님을 나의 도움으로 삼고 산다면 인생은 걱정할 것이 없을 것입니다. 시편 146편 5절 말씀은 이런 하나님의 도움을 받는 길을 다음과 같이 말씀하셨습니다. “여호와 자기 하나님에게 자기의 소망을 두는 자는 복이 있도다” 이 말씀은 누구든지 하나님을 자기가 의지할 하나님으로 삼고 그가 자기를 인도해 주실 것을 소망하면 복된 삶을 누리게 된다는 말입니다. 이 말씀은 너무도 우리에게 위로가 되는 말이라고 생각합니다. 이 세상에 꽤 도움이 될만한 권세자나 유명인은 너무도 만나기가 어렵습니다. 유명한 의사 한 사람을 만나 병 고침을 받으려면 수없이 많은 날을 기다려야 합니다. 그동안에 사람은 죽을 수도 있습니다. 그러나 우리 하나님은 천지를 창조하시고 모든 인생의 일을 주관하시는 하나님으로서 우리가 요청하는 그 즉시 우리를 만나 도움을 주시는 분이십니다. 그래서 시편 46편 1~3절은 다음과 같이 말씀하고 있습니다. “하나님은 우리의 피난처시요 힘이시니 환난 중에 만날 큰 도움이시라 그러므로 땅이 변하든지 산이 흔들려 바다 가운데에 빠지든지 바닷물이 솟아나고 뛰놀든지 그것이 넘침으로 산이 흔들릴지라도 우리는 두려워하지 아니하리로다”

한 주간도 하나님께 소망을 두고 나의 도움으로 삼고 살아서 하나님의 도움으로 넉넉히 모든 것을 은혜로 채움 받는 형통한 날들이 되시기를 주님의 이름으로 축원합니다.

Blessed are Those Whose Help is God

As I read the Bible early in the morning, I came across Psalm 146:5, which states, “Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God.” There is no one in this world who does not need help. When we look at our own lives, we can see that we receive help from countless people. We wear clothes that were made by others; when we purchase food, we eat what was prepared by those who made them; when we are not feeling well, we receive the help of doctors; and when we have legal issues, we receive help from lawyers. In these ways, we receive help from many people as we live each day.

But what we need the most is God’s help. Whether we prosper or fail, receive blessings or face calamities —it is all in God’s hands. David confessed in 1 Chronicles 29:11-12, “Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all. Both riches and honor come from you, and you rule over all. In your hand are power and might, and in your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all.”

If we consider God to be our help, there will be nothing for us to worry about. Psalm 146:5 states, “Blessed is he… whose hope is in the Lord his God.” According to this verse, whoever depends on God and trusts that He will guide him will have a blessed life. I think this message gives us great encouragement. It is difficult to meet someone famous or politically powerful who will be of help to us. For instance, a patient who wants to make an appointment with a renowned doctor would have to wait a long time. During that time, the patient could even die. However, our God, who created the whole universe and rules over all life, immediately meets with us and offers His help as soon as we present our requests to Him. Thus, Psalm 46:1-3 proclaims, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling.”

I pray that you will put your hope in God and live each day with God as your help. And through God’s help, may your days be abundantly filled with His grace.
